BMS sent two talented musicians to Chapel Hill for the honor of participating in All State Band. Elise Poche' earned 8th chair clarinet and Miranda Smith earned 9th chair trombone in the 2016 North Carolina All State Band. They auditioned in March at Central Davidson Middle School in Lexington against the best players in the state. They were scored on scales, a prepared solo, and sightreading. The top scores were chosen for the band. Only four other middle schools from the Western NC district had students earn chairs in the band: Asheville, Cane Creek, North Buncombe, and Waynesville. After qualifying, the students traveled to UNC-Chapel Hill for the weekend of April 29-May 1 to rehearse with the band and present a concert. Band director Donnie Mulligan and private instructors Karen Howell and Rivers Smith are extremely proud of their hard work and accomplishments. Also congrats to Frank Parsons for earning an honorable mention on the clarinet.
