September Is Attendance Awareness Month
September Is Attendance Awareness Month
09/01/2019
Consistent school attendance in the early grades improves children’s learning and achievement. Chronic absenteeism is an early predictor of student performance. As early as prekindergarten, children who are chronically absent (missing 10 percent of the academic year for any reason) are less likely to read proficiently by the end of third grade, more likely to be retained, and less likely to develop the social skills needed to persist in school. Read the proclamation by Transylvania County Schools Superintendent Dr. Jeff McDaris to recognize and reinforce the importance of regular attendance.

Each one hopes to earn a chance to compete for one of the All-State Bands, and many local students will be performing this May due to their success. In both the middle and high school bands, a handful of musicians in each region may audition for a single All-State chair in some instruments. In other cases, hundreds might be vying for only 20 highly contested seats at the state level.
