COVID-19 Update 9 - March 22, 2020
Posted on 03/22/2020

Dear TCS Families,

From Monday, March 23 through Friday, March 27, 2020, Transylvania County Schools will remain on the current Virtual Day schedule. Monday is Virtual Day #7 for elementary students.

We miss seeing you at school, and we truly want everyone to stay healthy and happy at home.

Please keep following guidelines to wash hands frequently, and limit contact with anyone who is feeling ill. Our buses and vans continue delivering meals this week, with more bus stops coming later this week to increase safety. See the current bus routes here.

In today’s update for Monday, March 23:

  • Health and safety reminders
  • Virtual Day packets available Friday at elementary schools
  • New safety plan for food delivery and pick-up

Health and Safety

Along with our public health and emergency management partners, our district keeps watching the COVID-19 (coronavirus) situation closely so we can respond appropriately to new cases in western North Carolina.

Please visit our website at tcsnc.org/covid19 for important local, and national updates, including the unified Transylvania County response to COVID-19. Remember to call ahead before you visit the doctor or emergency care, to slow the spread of infection.

Virtual Day Packets

Elementary students are currently working on Virtual Days 7 through 11. The last day of materials that students have at home is for Monday, March 30 (Day 12). We are proud of so many students and families growing and learning together.

This Friday, March 27, each elementary school will have Virtual Days 13 through 20 ready for pickup between 7:45 am and 4:00 pm. Please come to your child’s school for materials.

New Safety Plan for Children’s Meals

Our district served nearly 5,500 children’s meals last week. We are very proud to offer this service thanks to our dedicated School Nutrition and Transportation staff.

Our daily bus schedule continues the same as last Friday, with three routes starting at 11:00 am. Again, visit tcsnc.org/covid19 for the most current schedules. Also, if you received a home delivery Friday, you will still be on the schedule for Monday.

However, for the health and safety of our staff and all the families we serve, later this week Transylvania County Schools will announce even more bus stops coming for children’s meals along with curbside pickup at select schools.

This will replace home delivery, and our request form has been turned off. We are no longer taking new requests to deliver children’s meals to individual homes. We will share information with families before this service comes to a close.

Thank you again to all our staff, and to students, families, and community partners. Teaching everyone takes everyone, and we will keep growing and learning together every day as we take on this new journey together.
