COVID-19 Update 10 - March 23, 2020 - Closed Through May 15
Posted on 03/23/2020

Dear Transylvania County Schools students, staff, and families,

Today, Governor Roy Cooper joined state education, health, and emergency management officials to announce that all K-12 schools in North Carolina will remain closed for in-person instruction at least through May 15, 2020, to slow the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus).

We know learning should never stop, and except for Spring Break, Transylvania County Schools will maintain “blended instruction” for students through May 15. Transylvania County Schools will keep Spring Break as scheduled for the week of April 13-17.  Tuesday, March 24, is a Virtual Day for all students; it is Day 8 for elementary students. Elementary families, Virtual Day learning packets will be ready for pick-up at your child’s school on Friday, March 27, as announced by your schools. We will also send home details about Chromebooks, which will soon be available for pick-up in Grades 3-5.

At this time, our first window for returning to in-school instruction will be May 18, 2020. We expect further updates from state and local authorities to help our district plan appropriately and keep families informed.

Reminder: Please check our website, new mobile app, and social media for updates on children’s meal delivery. New bus routes and school pick-up sites will open Thursday. Our last day for home deliveries was Monday, March 23. For more information on children’s meals, contact School Nutrition at 884-6173 or visit tcsnc.org/covid19.

Thank you for your cooperation, support, and flexibility as we work through these changes together.

Nothing is more important to us than the safety and well-being of our students, educators, families, and community. Please keep doing these things faithfully:

  • Wash hands thoroughly several times a day.
  • Cough or sneeze into your elbow.
  • Stay home if you feel ill.
  • Call ahead before traveling to your health care provider.
  • Limit your family’s movement outside your home.
  • Maintain social distance of 6 feet or more when you travel out.
  • Follow updates from the CDC, Department of Health and Human Services, and Transylvania Public Health.
