COVID-19 Update 15 - March 30 - “Stay At Home” Order Takes Effect
Posted on 03/30/2020

Good evening Transylvania County Schools families,

By now, we have settled into our Virtual Day schedule through May 15. Over the last two weeks, we have refined our delivery of meals and academics, and now we are set to stay the course.

Please remember that, according to Governor Cooper’s most recent order, everyone in the state should “Stay At Home” except for essential business, starting today, March 30, at 5pm.

March 30 - Stay At Home Order - COVID19

Our schools are absolutely essential for the growth and well-being of our community. That’s why Governor Cooper directed North Carolina’s educational leaders to develop a plan to:

  • Ensure access to a quality education for students through the remainder of the school year;

  • Provide students with remote learning while school buildings are closed; and

  • Ensure that all school employees – including janitors, bus drivers, teaching assistants, and cafeteria workers – will work in safe environments and be paid.

In a message to all school system staff, Superintendent Dr. McDaris stated:

“Transylvania County Schools understands and knows the vital role our school system has in maintaining services to our students and families. Our efforts are being felt, and we are making a difference for our families. Remote and online learning via our Virtual Day activities, food distribution, food deliveries, maintaining technology infrastructure and facilities, and operational duties will continue as normal at this time.

“No amount of thanks will be adequate for the tremendous work each one of you is doing to ensure that education continues and students are fed. You are critical heroes in this battle. Thank you for all you do every day!”

With Dr. McDaris, all our staff would like to encourage our students, families, and our community partners to stay at home, stay safe, and stay connected with us. We aim to keep growing and thriving together every day, especially through this difficult time. Thank you!
