Say Something SS-ARS Launching in Transylvania County Schools
"Say Something" Anonymous Reporting System Now Launching In Transylvania County Schools
10/25/2020
Transylvania County Schools is officially launching the “Say Something” Anonymous Reporting System (SS-ARS) for students, which most North Carolina public school districts will be adopting this year to meet the reporting guidelines and standards developed by the N.C. Department of Public Instruction and the Center for Safer Schools. Say Something is a youth violence prevention program from the national nonprofit organization Sandy Hook Promise (SHP), which has funding to provide the program and training at no cost to the district. The SS-ARS allows youth and adults to securely submit anonymous safety concerns – anytime, from anywhere – to help identify and intervene upon at-risk individuals before they hurt themselves or others. The system enables school administrators and law enforcement to create effective interventions and to help prevent violence, suicide, bullying, self-harm and other forms of threatening behavior.

On Monday, April 6, 2020, the Transylvania County Board of Education held a regular meeting which was streamed online. The intent was to (1) provide public access to the proceedings in accordance with the NC Open Meetings Law, and (2) adhere to the governor's executive order which limits a gathering to 10 people.

However, during the meeting the Board discovered that some viewers were not able to observe the meeting. For that we wish to apologize, and once the error was identified, the Board immediately went into recess to remedy the situation.

As a safeguard, the meeting was recorded, and the recording of all decisions taken by the Board is made available here for all viewers. Furthermore, we will rectify this problem before any future meetings, so every member of the public may participate safely in these open and public meetings.
