MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support)
Thank you for visiting the Transylvania County Schools information page on MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports). MTSS is a multi-tiered framework that promotes school improvement through engaging, research-based academic and behavioral practices. NC MTSS employs a systems approach using data-driven problem solving to maximize growth for all.
How are Parent/Guardians involved in MTSS?
The MTSS process in Transylvania County Schools is not complete without active parent/guardian engagement. TCS works hard to involve families in this process by:
-Engaging students and families that represent a diverse population of the school
-Engaging students and families in problem-solving when their children need additional supports
-Provide intensive outreach to unresponsive families
-Increase the skills of families to support student learning
If your child's teacher determines that your student needs Supplemental (Tier 2) or Intensive (Tier 3) for Academic or Behavioral support, you will be notified and involved in the improvement process.
Please note: If at any time, a parent, caregiver or school staff member suspects that your child may have a disability, a referral to special education will be made. If a parent verbally requests an evaluation, staff will advise the parent to make the request in writing and send to the principal and/or teacher.
The IEP Team, which includes the parent, will determine if an evaluation will be conducted. This process is generally referred to as Child Find. More info can be found here.
How can you help your child in school (Parent Tips):
*Get to know your child's teacher. Attend parent conferences, Open House events, etc.
*Share your view on your child's strengths and weaknesses. What do you notice at home?
*Ask your child's teacher when/how often you will be notified of your child's progress.
*Celebrate the growth that your child displays!
If you have questions about the MTSS process in your child's school, please reach out to your child's school principal. They may answer your question or will direct your question to the school-based MTSS Chair. You can also find helpful info throughNCDPI MTSS resources.
