BES first grade dot day

Ms. Corn's first grade class celebrated International Dot Day today.  They celebrated with Dot Day hats, activities, and meeting the author of The Dot, Peter Reynolds, virtually.  The Dot is a book that celebrates encouraging others to "make their mark" even when they do not feel like they have talents.

class meeting author virtually"The Dot" is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing, which has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the globe."

Typically celebrated on the 15th of every year, this is the 15th anniversary of Dot Day. It was originally introduced by a teacher who shared it with his class in 2009. It is now International.

" I love seeing what the kids create and hope that it will help my students gain confidence."-- Heather Corn, BES, 1st Grade
