Congratulations to Brevard High School's 2026 Junior Marshals!
On Friday, Brevard High School celebrated an incredible group of juniors as families gathered for the announcement ceremony. Junior Marshals represent the top ten percent of the junior class based on cumulative grade point average, earned through sustained hard work, discipline and commitment to their studies.
These outstanding students were recognized at the ceremony and will be honored at the TC Scholar Banquet. They will serve an important role in this year's graduation ceremony, leading the senior class in procession and assisting throughout.
A special congratulations to:
Chief Junior Marshal: Lila Laughridge
Co-Chief Junior Marshal: Madeline Andrews
And to all of this year's Junior Marshals:
Madeline Adrignola, Sienna Cohen, Ella Crider, Abigail Dodd, Abigail Donnelly, Adeline Drennen, Sophie Dunbar, Elena Durant, Madison Galloway, Georgia Gerring, Eli Hardy, Rebecca Harris, Camden Jenkins, Alexis McCall, Ella Monk, Mia Booth Powell, Macy Rogers, Kodi Searcy, Naila Small, and Bradyn Toms.

Exciting things are happening at Davidson River School!
Teacher Sara Smith recently received a Creative Classrooms Grant from the Transylvania County Schools Educational Foundation to launch "Cultivate, Thrive, and Prosper," a hands-on agriculture and animal care program. The program empowers students to build real-world skills, explore career pathways, and grow in confidence and responsibility through therapeutic, project-based learning.
Right now, students are growing their own chicken feed by sprouting lentils in jars, washing and rinsing them daily. By day-3 they already had sprouts, and in about a week they will have a full jar ready to feed the school chickens!
The entire school community directly benefits from this project through beautification projects and hands-on STEAM learning.

The Ron Clark Academy House System creates a positive climate and culture for both students and staff. Within the specific houses, unique learning and leadership structures are created.
We believe, as does the Ron Clark Academy, that every student needs a cause and a crew to further enrich their education journey.

We are celebrating Brevard High School's DECA students following their major success at the Career Development Conference in Greensboro!
Out of 6,500 students competing from across the state, BHS students stood out.
Janaysia Cornett earned 1st place in her role-play scenario in the Apparel & Accessories Category and Dillon Hunter was awarded the AMA Marketing Management Certification! Thirteen out of 17 BHS students earned Competency Pins for their scores in the competitive events.
Beyond the results, teachers from across the state noted our students were professional, polite and kind. They participated in workshops, took their competitions seriously and represented Brevard High School well.
Congratulations to the students and their DECA advisor, Laura Smith!

A big 'thank you' to all of the tour guides and classroom presenters!

Last Friday, after 31 years in Transylvania County Schools, Principal Mick Galloway said goodbye to Brevard High School. The entire school and BHS community gathered in the auditorium to share memories, and show well-deserved appreciation for Mr. Galloway and his positive impact on students and teachers across the county. The amount of people in attendance and the stories told on Friday were a true display of what it looks like when a longtime educator uplifts their school community for decades, by caring about each individual and always striving to make things better.
While we will miss Mr. Galloway at Brevard High School, we wish him well as he takes on another beneficial role in the community, and we are excited for the great things to come for our Blue Devil community.
"One person does not make a school. You all decide what Brevard High School gets to be," Galloway said on Friday, encouraging students to pursue their goals and dreams, and keep the good momentum going.

Day #1 of Read Across America week is in the books!
Reading and literacy are promoted in every classroom across Transylvania County Schools. This week, students are engaging in an additional celebration of reading!
Mrs. Goins' class at Pisgah Forest Elementary School, for example, is reading Holes. This great book explores themes of friendship, resilience, perseverance and making good choices.
"This is starting to get really interesting," a 5th grade student said!

Thank you for all you do to serve our school communities and provide essential services to support students' academic and social success.
